Hungarian

Hungarian belongs to the Finno-Ugric language group, but it is very complicated to determine its origin, as there are no historical data for this language. Vocabulary and grammar is related to Finnish, but also to Turkic languages. It was also influenced by its Slavic neighbours and later on by German.

It is the official language of Hungary and Vojvodina, an acknowledged language of minorities in Austria, Croatia and Slovakia.

Hungarian has a curious structure, in which all grammatical and syntactic functions are expressed by morphemes added to the word stem (agglutination language). The nouns may take on thousands of different forms. Postposition exists in this language, as well as locative cases (like in Finnish) that express direction, origin or place. Grammatical genders are not distinguished, so it quite possible that you may not be able to tell the gender of the people while reading a text.
