Lithuanian

Lithuanian has a very archaic vocabulary from which it is obvious that it comes from the same linguistic foundation as Sanskrit does. There are almost no vulgar expressions in Lithuanian and it is regarded as a true cultural treasure.

The Lithuanian grammar is a curiosity: it contains 12 vowels and 20 consonants, it has only two grammatical genders (masculine and feminine) and 7 verbal tenses. It is rich in participles, which come up in all genders and tenses.

An interesting thing to note are the endings of female surnames – it is possible to find out the marital status of the woman by looking at the ending of her surname, this is not possible in the case of men.
