Slovenian

Belongs to the South Slavic language group and it is very similar to the other languages from this group as well. Historically, it evolved from the only Slavic language in the East-Alp territory, meaning the area of today’s Slovenia, south Hungary, south Austria and north-eastern Italy, from which individual dialect separated. Slovenian formed approximately in the 16th century and has many regional dialects. This is due to progressive settling from numerous directions that blended different language groups together (Germanic, Finno-Ugric, Romanic and Slavic). As the only Slavic language, Slovenian has kept some of the archaic features of Proto-Slavic. It is one of the official languages in Carinthia, Trieste and Gorizia.
